MBD2 RC and MBE2 RC series to be available from Q1 and Q2 2009 respectivelySingapore, November 24, 2008 — Leading regional IT and communications solutions provider Fujitsu Asia today announced two new series of Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) hard disk drives (HDDs) for enterprise applications. The MBD2 RC and MBE2 RC series of 2.5-inch enterprise HDDs are rated at 10,025 revolutions per minute (rpm) and 15,000 rpm respectively. The MBD2 RC series offers storage capacities of 147 gigabytes (GB) and 300 GB, while the MBE2 RC series includes 73.5 GB and 147 GB models. The high storage capacities are realised via perpendicular magnetic recording (PMR) technology. Unlike conventional longitudinal magnetic recording techniques, in which information is stored parallel to the surface of a HDD, PMR technology aligns magnetic charges perpendicular to the disk surface.
