... 24 October 2008New photos and footage of the first permanent new bridge being lifted into place in the Olympic Park have been released by the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) today.The bridge lifted into place is the first of more than 30 new bridges to be built in the Olympic Park to create new connections across the site and leave an open and accessible public park in legacy. A 250-tonne crane was used to lift three 55-metre-long steel beams into place to form the main deck of the bridge. The bridge is in the north of the Olympic Park, spanning across the River Lea to form an essential east–west link across the site. The bridge will initially be used by site vehicles during the construction phase of the project, and then during the Games and in legacy it will form part of the main loop road around the Olympic Park to provide an essential link around the site for pedestrians and vehicles.The i ...» Next (HTML)
