Release date: 03/11/2008 Contact Information: Wendy Chavez, 415/947-4248, chavez.wendy@epa.gov Investigation part of overall $4 million EPA initiative to clean up leaking underground tanks San Francisco – As part of a $30,000 grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the Yurok Tribe completed an inventory of 15 underground storage tank sites on its reservation in Klamath, Calif. The tribe discovered an abandoned tank buried in the front yard of a residence, as well as two other sites that require further investigation -- all potential candidates for federal cleanup funding. The EPA will work with the Yurok Tribe this spring to further investigate the abandoned tanks and clean up any contamination.
