WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Department of Justice Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) has announced the availability of $14.4 million in grants under the Secure Our Schools grant program. The grants provide up to 50 percent of the total cost for the installation of metal detectors, locks, lighting, fencing, surveillance cameras, and other equipment that helps deter crime and disorder in schools. The grants can also be used to pay half of the cost of security assessments, security training, and other measures that will provide a significant improvement in school security.
